JadeCon 2016
I'm going to make this post open to Twitter just to cover bases. I know a lot of people don't frequent LJ much any more.

It was my hope to attend JadeCon's 20th anniversary in Columbus, Ohio in June this year. Due to a rash of complications (schedule and finances), I regretfully have come to the conclusion I cannot go. Most of my remaining vacation time for 2016 (save for the two days I was going to use for JadeCon) is spoken for, and the lowest flight price I've seen for the dates that I can travel (the dates in question are not flexible, which probably doesn't help) is over $650 roundtrip. Most airlines are charging more than that. Hell, I saw one round trip ticket yesterday that topped out at $1009. When I was told to brace myself for crazy ticket prices, I was thinking $450 to $500, maybe. Not an average of over $800 on most airlines. The mind boggles.

With Texas Frightmare looming (thankfully, most of that trip is paid for, save for airport parking and spending cash) in a little over a month, and two furbabies with scheduled dental cleaning appointments (total: $700-$800) to budget for... well, you get the picture.

I'm sorry, Jaders. To those of you who stepped up with possible options and ideas to get me there, I appreciate it... but the inflexible travel dates were the final nail in the coffin, I'm afraid. :(

Aw, man... I was really hoping you'd be able to make it. This just means I really need to try to get down to Portland and visit sometime (and not just wave at you from my car as we drive through on our way home from California).

I'm also feeling a lot better about the airfare I got for the trip to Columbus, which ended up in the $450 range.

I would have loved to have found something for $450. OMG, that would have been awesome. Even though I have stepped back from my plans to go, I still keep looking at airfares... wishful thinking on my part, I guess. Still not seeing anything below $650. Most are around $800. Ugh.

WOW! Those flights are spendy. I can't believe the cost of anything nowadays. My friend was able to book a rather inexpensive flight to PDX in August for VanCon this year. Apparently Frontier now does a direct Columbus/PDX flight and she was lucky to get something inexpensive as she was not prepared or able to afford a $800+ ticket. I was thinking about doing a quick flight back east to visit her and yup, cheapest flight was $650. Can't afford that. Sorry you won't be able to go to JadeCon. It's a bummer when prices cost you out of attending something.

I'm just grateful that my flight to Texas Frightmare was less than usual this year. I'll have to plan on JadeCon for another year, perhaps. It doesn't help that it usually falls only a matter of weeks after TFW... and I'm not inclined to give TFW up at this point in the game. I love it too much.

Yea, you gotta have your guilty pleasure weekend. We all need something where we can let loose a little. If we didn't have those events to look forward to life would be looking rather bleak, wouldn't it. I hope you are able to make it some year to JadeCon.

You have VanCon, I have TFW. We have to have those little things to keep us sane!
